We Are...Penn State

Well, here I am.  I made it to Penn State and I finally have internet access in my room!  Woo!

So, here's a long post with pictures and things.  Getting excited?  [[Dumb question, I know.]]

The trip up was pretty uneventful.  I didn't eat any breakfast before I left, so I made a pit-stop in Harrisonburg and stopped by the apartment [[where I'm still paying rent...:( ]].  I ended up losing an hour there due to some sleeping and comfortable couches and OnDemand TV.  But, other than that, I made pretty good time.  What?  You want pictures I took with my iPod while I was driving?  Okay.

Yeah.  That's about all I saw on the way up here.  Lots and lots of green.  Pretty cool, eh?

So, I got to Penn State on Saturday.  My job didn't begin until Monday, but I wanted to spend some time walking around and trying to get oriented to the area, get my things unpacked, and just rest.  I was met at my on campus apartment building by one of the res life people and she had all of my keys and passes and things.  This is when my first adventure began.

I have been in email contact with Penn State people for a while now.  Friday afternoon I finally got directions to where I needed to be and what room I was going to be staying in.  It was nice to finally have some direction and news!  Well, when I actually got here, we went to find the room [[easy enough, right?]] and stuck the key in and.....nothing.  Definitely didn't work.  Definitely wasn't my room.  I did a little more research and the key form said I was going to be living in a different room.  Well, oops.  Haha.  So, once we figured that out, I got to the right place.  I'm living in Curry Hall in the Eastview Terrace part of campus.  It's pretty nice.  There's nothing at JMU I can compare it to seeing as it's on campus apartments.  But, I'm in a single room with attached bathroom and shower.  I also have a micro-fridge in my room.  And......free laundry!!  Woo!

 My welcome gifts!

I pretty much have 7 shirts that happen to have different designs

Dresser, food, and micro-fridge

Wardrobe and drawers

Desk

Livin' it up in the twin bed...still.

Bathroom

Shower...with amazing water pressure

My TV channel selections

Saturday and Sunday, after I finished getting the room set up and all of that jazz consisted of wandering State College and the campus.  I took more pictures with the iPod, but I also took out my 35mm cameras, so those pictures will come later once I get the film developed.

You know, just a pub right across from my home. [[One of many placed downtown]]

Oh, you know, things to buy...:/

Shoot...it's soooo close.

My home!

The Shrine...one of the most photographed places on campus.

Map of campus...So damn confusing.

There are a lot of signs like these outside of the buildings.  Penn State people have done a lot!  This one made me think of Dr. Who.  It's the Pond building. :D

What's the phrase?  Let sleeping ducks lie?  There are a lot of critters here.  And if you think JMU squirrels are crazy...

Fancy cups and fancy napkin holders in the dining hall.  Definitely not JMU food though.  Miss Aramark!

Can't really tell here, but it's just like JMU...uphill everywhere!

It's honestly a great campus and a great town!  I'm so excited to try the restaurants and bars and things downtown on the weekend!

As far as my job, I think I'm going to like it.  I'm pretty much a Hall Director for Summer Session Two...but Penn State HDs are completely different than JMU HDs.  I'm going to have three buildings, 6 to 8 RAs, and duties like Welcome Week programming, judicial referrals, and the typical "other duties as assigned by your supervisor".  My supervisor and all of the other Res Life and Housing folks are great!  I definitely think it is going to be a great summer.
