Some....poetry?

Okay, not my usual style, but I figured I'd post it anyway.

For one of my classes I had to write a "get to know you" type poem.  Awesome homework thus far, I must say. But anyway, we had to write it based on a template, so here's what I came up with. (Please don't judge, :-P)

I am from Sonic Happy Hours, from Macado’s, and Fort Lewis chicken barbeques.
I am from the yellow house up the hill with the rival colored mailbox.
I am from the Dogwood state, the home of the West Salem Cardinals.
I am from leaning Christmas trees and cancer, from Michael Lee and Betsy Kay and Catherine.
I am from the church goers and softball lovers.
From truth telling and living life in color.
I am from the Unreformed Reformed Southern Baptist Methodist community of accepted un-acceptance and tough love.
I am Salem born and Salem bred, pasta salad, and sweet tea.
From the woman whose eyes I stole, the Mother I learned to love, and the Father who struggles silently.
I am from backyard bonfires, laundry parties, and Coleman popup campers.  From misdirected beach trips and basement skate sessions to MC Hammer.  From broken bonds and hearts and lives.   I am from love.

Again, not my usual style, but, then again, it is kind of depresso...which is totally me. So, plus one there, right?

Tomorrow is Monday....the first day of class.  I thought my senior year at JMU was going to be the last time I had a first day of classes...but here I go again!  I'm so freaking ready for this all to begin again.  It will be good to actually get back into a schedule and have plans and get on with learning about what I want to do with my life.  (And hopefully figure out what my life will consist of doing after two years...because I know Grad School graduation is going to come sooner than I think!)

Which leads me to my next topic...(no it doesn't, but it sounded good right?).  I started my assistant ship a while ago, but I actually had something to do on Thursday and Friday.  I got to meet the five girls I will be supervising for the next 9 months or so.  They were really cool and seem like they're going to be an awesome group of girls to work with.  Hopefully being in this office of 15 girls and 1 guy (that being me) will be drama free and easy going.  From what I can tell right now, it's going to be just fine!

I finally got to be around the entire cohort today for the first time since our first "orientation" (if you want to call it that).  It was cool to hear how everyone else has been doing in their assistantships and with the people they've been interacting with.  I also realized that the group of people I'm going to be learning to get closer with over the next two years are really going to help me learn about myself.  I just have this feeling they are going to teach me about myself and how to be honest with who I am.  Hell, let's be honest, I've already had a tear-filled heart-to-heart with one of the girls.  Whether or not anyone believed it to be honest and sincere, it was.  And I've kept thinking about it since then.  So, woohoo.

I'm excited and ready and willing to learn...about everything and anything.

So, loyal followers (makes me sound legit at least, right?), hope you are willing to learn with me, and read about what the ways I'm growing.

And, for tonight's playlist...

Boxer -- The Gaslight Anthem

Waste of Paint -- Bright Eyes

The Sound of Silence -- Simon and Garfunkel

The World at Large -- Modest Mouse
